Peter and his band put on a fantastic show! They appeared on stage at 7:30, a half hour before they were supposed to go on, and started playing. Peter Frampton is a great performer and definitely has a sense of humor. He was cracking jokes between songs and made sure to acknowledge all of the fans, whether they were standing right in front of him or were sitting way out on the boardwalk; he even said hi to the people watching from their apartment complex rooftops!
He was so incredibly happy through the entire concert. He told us how he promised us “facebookers” and other fans that interact with him and the band on his site that this would be their longest concert of the tour. Then made a joke about how the record label/managers/someone like that wouldn’t be very happy with a long concert and declared that they’d just play forever. He smiled and sang for nearly 3 hours!
Peter very excitedly declared that they have a new album out called "Thank You Mr Churchill" and that not only is it available on CD, but it’s also out on Vinyl. He said that they were thinking about releasing it on 8-track but didn’t think they had the market for it, lol. He pulled out the record and showed it to the crowd and made another joke about how you should make sure you don’t try and play this in your car stereo player because that might not work out so well for you. So you know, buy the cd for the ride home, and then stop at Best Buy on your way home, buy a record player, and then buy the vinyl. Hehe.
After a few more songs and the sun finally setting, he took a few minutes to tell us the origins of the song "Vaudeville Nanna And The Banjolele" on the new album. It was about how he started playing the guitar. He said he was in the attic with his father when he was a child, I believe he said he was 6, gathering suitcases so they could pack for a holiday and he came across this other little case. He asked his father what it was and his Dad said, “Oh, your Nanna gave that to me to give to you so I can maybe show you how to play a few chords if you want.” It was a Banjolele and he learned his first two songs (I can’t remember what they were) on it. He then took out a little Ukulele and said that it was similar to his Banjolele and made a joke about playing with two guitars. Peter started the song with the Ukulele and his other guitarist picked it up after he was done with the intro. A great song.
Before they played another of the new songs, Peter clarified a lyric in it. Apparently, some people thought that they were singing “breeding pigs”. What they are actually singing is "greedy pigs". He assured us, they are definitely saying GREEDY and he wanted to squash any rumors about them having written a song about “breeding pigs” lol. This also was a great song. I think I’m going to have to go out and get this new album.
The concert continued with little stories or funny quips after every few songs until they finally played Do You Feel Like We Do. As usual, the crowd went wild! It was an awesome closing song!
The band took their bows and exited the stage.
We cheered for a few minutes and out they come again! They played a few more songs, and closed with While My Guitar Gently Weeps. AWESOME cover of that song! I managed to record the whole thing and the sound quality on my little camera is actually pretty good. Check it out on YouTube. Honestly, the video is a little shaky so I won’t be offended if you just open it up to listen to it. I’m short and people kept moving, lol.
Then we all went home. :-D Overall Peter Frampton and his band put on a really awesome and entertaining concert!!
